What are advanced clinical and specialist procedures?

Advanced clinical and specialist procedures are medical or nursing interventions that go beyond standard personal care. They include tasks such as managing a ventilator, caring for a tracheostomy, supporting enteral feeding, monitoring vital signs, and maintaining catheters or stomas.

Specialist clinical care delivered safely at home

What’s The Difference?

These are not procedures that most home care agencies are able to provide. They require registered nurse oversight, specific staff training, and a clinical governance structure that ensures every task is carried out safely and consistently.

CareLink Direct is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for Treatment of Disease, Disorder or Injury. This is the regulated activity that covers complex clinical care at home, and it is a registration that only a minority of home care providers hold. Our nurses are hands-on and on the ground, not managing from a distance, and every clinical procedure is supervised, reviewed and documented properly.

When might someone need specialist clinical procedures at home?

The need for specialist clinical procedures at home often follows a change in a person’s health: a hospital admission, a new diagnosis, a deterioration in a long-term condition, or a discharge that comes earlier than the family expected.

You may be looking for clinical care at home if your loved one:

  • Has been discharged from the hospital and needs ongoing clinical support
  • Requires a procedure such as catheter care, stoma care or enteral feeding
  • Is using a ventilator or requires airway management at home
  • Needs regular monitoring of vital signs and early escalation if something changes
  • Has a long-term or progressive condition with complex clinical needs
  • Would otherwise need to remain in the hospital or move into a residential setting

Why we exist

People are increasingly being discharged from hospital with complex care needs, and families are sometimes expected to manage procedures they have never been trained for. That is where CareLink Direct comes in. We work alongside families, GPs and hospital teams to make sure that clinical care at home is safe, consistent and properly supported.

How our specialist clinical care supports families

  • Clinical oversight from nurses who are present on the ground, not just a name in an office
  • Every procedure carried out by trained carers working under direct nurse supervision
  • Care plans built around individual assessment, not a generic template
  • Families kept involved and informed at every stage
  • Clear escalation pathways if health changes or deteriorates
  • Coordination with GPs, hospital teams and other health professionals
  • Contingency planning so care remains reliable in unexpected situations
  • Documentation and digital records that support safe, transparent care
