Stroke Recovery Care at Home
Stroke Recovery Care at Home
Coming home after a stroke is a significant milestone, and the care that surrounds recovery at home makes an important difference. CareLink Direct provides nurse-led stroke recovery care at home across Sussex and Surrey, supporting people and families with expert, consistent help at every stage of recovery.
Stroke Recovery Care at Home
A stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off, either by a blockage or by bleeding in or around the brain. Brain cells begin to die within minutes of a stroke, which is why rapid treatment is critical. The effects of a stroke depend on which part of the brain was affected and how long the blood supply was disrupted.

Common effects of stroke include weakness or paralysis on one side of the body, difficulty with speech or understanding language, problems with swallowing, memory and cognitive difficulties, fatigue, and emotional changes. In some cases, people also experience continence difficulties or complex pain.
Recovery from stroke is often a long process. Some people make significant gains in the months following a stroke, particularly with the right rehabilitation and support in place. CareLink Direct works alongside stroke rehabilitation teams to support recovery at home while managing any clinical care needs that have arisen.
